What's my QTH locator??

After my relocation a couple of years ago i was convinced that my QTH locator is JO21MN.
But zooming in the locator card i was very suprised to see that the border between JO21LN and JO21MN crosses my garage and garden!
My front door is in JO21LN, but my antenna's are located in JO21MN....a very rare situation i guess.
But what to report during radio contacts? Do you know it?

Na mijn verhuizing van enkele jaren geleden was ik er zeker van dat mijn nieuwe qth locator jo21mn is.
Maar nu eens goed gekeken op de locator kaart zie ik tot mijn verrassing dat de grenslijn tussen 2 locators precies over mijn grondgebied gaat. Mijn huis staat in jo21ln, maar de antennes staan in jo21mn.
Een bijzondere situatie, maar welke locatie geef ik nu door in qso's en op qsl kaarten? Weet jij het?

mcHF SDR transceiver project (1)

A couple of weeks ago we (PA0KN, PA2LVD, PA1LHM and i) started to build the M0NKA mcHF SDR transceiver kit.
Due to the very small smd 805 parts, this is defintitely not a beginners kit.
I'm glad solder work is done mostley bij Edwin and Theo.
Last week Edwin was able to activate the bootloader and to flash the software.
The idea is to make an enclosure by alluminium casting.

First fire by Edwin PA2LVD !

Een tijdje geleden besloten om samen met PA0KN, PA2LVD en PA1LHM de mcHF sdr transceiver ontworpen door M0NKA te bouwen.
Gezien de zeer kleine -805- smd componenten een kit voor gevorderen.
Meeste werk is door Edwin en Theo gedaan.
Voor de behuizing is het idee ontstaan om deze te maken dmv alluminium gietwerk.

Tytera TYT MD-380

A new toy arrived yesterday; the new TYT MD-380 DMR handheld.
For a low price of 130 euro one can start and play with digital radio.
Do not forget to order a programming cable!
As a real radio amateur i skipped the manual, installed the USB driver on my pc and load the codeplug into the MD-380.
After a couple of minutes i was able to contact the Dutch reflector and monitored my call on the DMR dashboard...not bad!
Impressed by the very very good audio quality and the rugged look and feel of the radio.
I'm very curious about all other features and will start to read the 80 pages manual....

Gisteren ontvangen: de nieuwe TYT MD-380 DMR portofoon.
Voor een bedrag van 130 euro kun je starten en experimenteren met DMR
Vergeet niet een programmeerkabel te bestellen!
Als een echte amateur liet ik de manual liggen, installeerde de usb drivers, software en codeplug.
Na enkele minuten kon ik al verbinding maken met de reflector en zag ik mijn call op het dashboard verschijnen...niet slecht he!
Ik ben onder de indruk van de zeer goede audiokwaliteit en de degelijkheid van deze porto.
Benieuwd naar de vele mogelijkheden van DMR, dus binnenkort de 80 pagina's tellende manual eens doorlezen...

Ultimate3S QRSS - WSPR Transmitter

Since a couple of months a new version of the Ultimate3 QRSS- WSPR transmitter has been released by Hans Summers from qrp-labs.com

Main difference is the use of a Si5351A oscillator in stead of the dds9850

Note that it is very important to read the right building guide and operating manual in regard to the firmware version.

The new U3S requires bias adjustment of the pa transistor, check if this transistor is not getting too hot!
For reasons of stability a gps is recommended.

Sinds een aantal maanden is een nieuwe versie van de Ultimate3 QRSS-WSPR zender op de markt.
Deze is gemaakt door Hans Summers.

Het grote verschil is dat de DDS9850 vervangen is door een Si5351A oscillator.

Let er wel op dat je de juiste versie van de handleidingen en firmware versie gebruikt.
De bias van de eindtrap in deze U3S dient juist afgesteld te worden; controleer dan ook dat deze niet te warm wordt.
Voor een stabiele werking is het aan te raden om een gps te gebruiken.

EA4AQM DDS

For my ILER 20 transceiver i was looking for a good, compact and cheap dds.
Surfin the internet i found a compact DDS made by Victor EA4AQM.
The kit consists of a small pcb, lcd, dds 9850 2 pic processors and a few components.
I had most of these components on stock so i asked Victor for the pcb and 2 pic's only.
This was no problem and after a while i received an envelope with the pcb, pic's and some extra parts.
The challenge was to build the kit with a spanish user guide....
Google translate and pictures did help me, but it's not that difficult to build this kit.
The good news is that the user interface is in english!

Voor mijn ILER 20 transceiver was ik op zoek naar een goede compacte en goedkope dds.
Op het internet vond ik een geschikt type ontworpen door Victor EA4AQM
De kit bestaat uit een kleine print, 2 PICS, dds 9850, LCD, en een paar componenten.
Omdat ik het gros zelf al had vroeg ik Victor of hij alleen de pcb en pics wilde sturen, wat geen enkel probleem bleek te zijn. Na enige tijd viel de enveloppe in de bus met wat extra componenten.
De uitdaging was om nu deze kit te bouwen met een Spaanstalige handleiding!
Met hulp van Google translate en foto's bleek het redelijk eenvoudig te zijn.
Het goede nieuws is dat de user interface engelstalig is.

(note that you have to cut off unused legs from DDS module before solder it to pcb)

The DDS has a build in S meter, i will not use this because i prefer an analoge S meter.

Alle componenten, pinheaders en DDS module op de print gesoldeerd.
(let op dat je de ongebruikte pootjes van de DDS module moet afknippen voor je deze soldeert)
De DDS heeft een ingebouwde S meter welke ik niet gebruik omdat mijn voorkeur naar een analoge meter uitgaat.

I made one modifcation; i replaced R8 with a variable trimmer potentiometer to fine tune the lcd contrast.
Ik heb een modificatie gedaan, namelijk R8 vervangen door een regelbare weerstand om het contrast van het lcd mooi af te regelen.

The DDS gives a very stable and clean signal, you can choose the step by pressing the encoder.
Initial setup parameters can be adjusted by pressing the encoder while power up.


De DDS produceert een stabiel schoon signaal. De stapgrootte is in te stellen door de encoder in te drukken. De eenmalige parameters kunnen aangepast worden door de encoder in te drukken en deze dan aan te zetten.

Ultimate 3 enclosure - Ultimate 3 behuizing.

Hans Summers sells a very nice enclosure for the Ultimate 3 qrp wspr transmitter.
It's a complete kit, so all switches, connectors etc are included.
There is enough space for future extension of the kit and for a step down converter (for gps)
I use a red color lcd and power on led to give it a more personal touch.

In de behuizing is voldoende plaats voor toekomstige uitbreidingen en voor een spanningsregelaar (gps)
