Simple Huff Puff oscillator - Eenvoudige bijsloffer.

To avoid frequency drift K. Spaargaren - PA0KSB (sk) designed a drift-cancellation circuit which can be found on the internet. Many people made some mods and redesigns past years.
A very simple -one ic- huff puff circuit was made by Hans Summers (http://www.hanssummers.com/)
Only a few components are used to build this circuit which can stabilize the vfo of some old tranceivers.
A must if you want to use digital modes.
Note that you can use a xtal of 32 Mhz.

Here is my example of a one chip huff puff circuit, i add a 5 voltage regulator. Just put a hc4060 in the socket and it's finished.
The board is only 3 by 5 cm.

Chinese LED Strips

Very hot on ebay last months are the LED strips from China. These flexible strips  consists of powerleds and smd resistors and have an adhesive backside. You can use the size you want and they look quite fun.
I was curious so i ordered one meter LED strip with a remote control unit and controler/receiver.
This controler/receiver lets you choose color's, flashing programs, light intensity and so on.

On the left the controler and on the right the remote control.
Just plug in 12 volts and you are ready for some lightshow! 12 volt inprikken en de lichtshow kan beginnen!.

You can use them for Christmas, but when choosing a steady white light it can be used in the shack to.

Yaesu FT-107M (2) Back in business. / FT-107M weer werkend.

Sometimes i ask myself why people do specific mods and 'improvements' on their expensive or original equipment. This FT-107M was ruined by add FM on it; some holes in back and even frontpannel were made and as you can see in the previous chapter, relays and wires just hang in the back of the rig.
Beside that, this rig was obviously a shelter for some insects past years.....
When switching this rig on, for 2 seconds i heard noise, and then a plopping sound followed by smoke!
The smoke came out of the PA and at an optical inspection i noticed some white stuff in the PA. First i thought a blown elec. cap, but Theo PA0KN convinced me that the white stuff was some heat paste.
After a second  check we found the culprit; a blown capacitor on the control board (which is mounted on the PA). After repacing this cap there was some light on the display, but no sound or working vfo.
We decided to remove the whole FM-mod and to bring the rig back to original.
After some time we had more live in the rig, but some relay problems because at power up it started in transmit mode..
For me it was early in the morning (1.00) when i left to go to sleep, but Theo did not gave up and found some cut and foldback traces (to use the AM filter) and fixed them all.... at 02:30 in the night the rig was up and running again!
Thanks Martin G4FUI for sending the service and usermanual.

I cleaned the in and outside of the rig and replaced all broken bulbs by white leds.
I realy like the combination of collors on this rig.

All credits to Theo PA0KN; alle lof voor Theo PA0KN

Yaesu FT-107M : Winterproject

The Yaesu FT-107M is a solid state 100 watts AM-SSB-CW transceiver from the very early eighties.
As far as i know 2 different colors were available; grey and white.
I bought a defective white example and will try to keep it up and running again.

Some modifications were done; i guess this is part of an FM unit with variable power (see pot on the back)
(zie potmeter)

It's always a real challange when mods were done without documentation and when the previous owner is not able to tell you how and what was changed.

Before i start i have to download and print a service manual and join membership of userforums.

Today i had the chance to add one of the most wanted receivers to my collection; the JRC NRD-515.
This receiver is almost still in mint and works fabulous.
